Welcome to Kane'ohe!
Not so far away from
Hawaii's
largest city of
Honolulu is a
serene town with the intriguing Hawaiian name, Kane'ohe. Translating to “bamboo
man,” the name comes from a local legend, in which a woman compared her cruel
husband to the sharp edge of cutting bamboo. Along with an interesting name, Kane'ohe
has a variety of attractions worth checking out. The
Ho'omaluhia
Botanical Garden stretches over 400 acres (161.9 ha) and consists of meandering
walking trails among vibrant tropical plants and flowers that create an array
of fragrances for visitors to enjoy. For those who like to experience the tranquility
of the outdoors over a game of golf, the town boasts several golf courses, including
the
Pali
Golf Course, the
Ko'olau
Golf Club and the
Bayview
Golf Park. Although Kane'ohe is known for its quiet nature, shopping
and dining opportunities are far from lacking. The
Windward
Mall has large department stores and local shops that offer special Hawaiian
products and keepsakes. The town's restaurant scene is also a highlight with cuisine
ranging from authentic Hawaiian to spicy Mexican.
